BSU’s ‘amazing’ opportunities

After spending a summer in South Asia as a Baptist Student Union (BSU) summer missionary from Mississippi College, the Lord opened my eyes to the urgency of sharing the Gospel among unreached peoples. As I boarded the plane to return home, I prayed to God asking Him to continue to give me opportunities to share the Gospel among the unreached. Thankfully, the Lord did exactly that.

Once I moved back to campus for the fall semester, our BSU was given a list of all the names of the international students that attended Mississippi College last year, along with their home country. As we looked and prayed over the list of names, we noticed that about 40% of the international students were from countries that are full of unreached people groups — places like Saudi Arabia, India, Japan, Egypt, and several more.

Realizing the amazing opportunities the Lord had given us, our BSU began developing relationships with many international students in the hopes of developing lifelong friendships and having Gospel conversations. Through game nights, weekend road trips, coffee hangouts, and late night Walmart runs, the Lord allowed us to befriend and share the Gospel with over 40 international students this past year, three of whom made decisions to follow Jesus!

God is so amazing in how He is sovereignly bringing the nations to colleges all across Mississippi, and it is a blessing that we get to play a role in introducing them to Jesus. Our mission as Christians is that Christ’s name would be glorified and exalted among all peoples of the world, so it would be a tragedy if we did not take advantage of this opportunity to reach internationals on our own campuses.

The harvest is plentiful and the laborers are very few in unreached parts of the world, but praise the Lord that He has brought the harvest to us at a time like this! “For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering. For my name will be great among the nations, says the LORD of hosts” (Malachi 1:11 ESV).
