Family of missing pastor’s wife searching Miss. River
MEMPHIS, Tn. (Special) – The family of Marilane Carter, the Kansas pastor’s wife who vanished Aug. 2 in the vicinity of the Interstate 55 bridge over the Mississippi River in Memphis, has moved to the river at the request of her family.
“We need volunteers to help us search right around the I-55 bridge at Memphis,” said husband Adam Carter, pastor of Leawood Church in Leawood, Kan., in an interview broadcast on WMC-TV in Memphis. “We need people with boats and very good sonar and experience navigating the Mississippi River.”
A woman at a gas station in DeSoto County told authorities there that she had given $10 for gas to a woman resembling Marilane Carter, according to news reports.
A Facebook page titled, Finding Marilane, reported, “[We] now have video confirmation showing Marilane at the Shell Station at approx. 4:58PM CST on Sunday, August 2… It appears Marilane fueled up and then went inside with her cup to get some ice water. She is then seen re-entering her 2011 GMC Acadia Kansas Tag 194 LFY and later leaving the gas station.”
Marilane Carter, 36, last had contact with her family by cell phone in the vicinity of the Interstate 55 bridge, according to news reports. The call went abruptly dead, her family has reported.
“I just told our three kids to pray for Mommy. We’re going to find her. It might take a few days,” Adam Carter told the television station in an earlier interview.
Adam Carter has been in Memphis and DeSoto County since his wife’s disappearance, and reportedly is now in Birmingham where she was headed to visit family and seek medical help for a sleeping problem.
Marilane Carter is five feet, eight inches tall and weighs about 130 pounds, according to police in Overland Park, Kan., where the Carters reside. She has green eyes and long brown hair. She was last seen wearing a green T-shirt and black yoga pants.
