Interim president for SBC Executive Committee to be named

NASHVILLE (BP) – Officers of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) Executive Committee will meet with the committee’s vice presidents by the end of January, committee chairman Rolland Slade told Baptist Press, with the result being a recommendation for one of them to serve as interim president.

The committee presidency became vacant on Nov. 1, after Ronnie Floyd announced Oct. 14 his intention to resign at the end of that month. Floyd had served as president since May 2019.

Per committee bylaws, officers are given the responsibility to designate a vice president to act as interim when the president/CEO post is vacant. The current committee vice presidents are:
— Jonathan Howe, Communications.
— Willie McLaurin, Great Commission Relations and Mobilization.
— Jeff Pearson, Chief Financial Officer.

In addition to Slade, senior pastor of Meridian Church in El Cajon, Ca., Executive Committee officers include:
— Stacy Bramlett, vice chair. She is senior vice-president at Independent Bank in Collierville, Tenn.
— Monte Shinkle, secretary. He is the retired senior pastor of Concord Church in Jefferson City, Mo.
— Erik Cummings, chair of the convention events and strategic planning committee. He is lead pastor of New Life Church in Miami, Fla.
— Andrew Hunt, chair of the convention missions and ministry committee. He is senior pastor of New Life Church in Indianapolis, Ind.
— Jim Gregory, chair of the Southern Baptist relations committee. He is senior pastor of First Church in Mountain Home, Idaho.
— Archie Mason, chair of the convention finances and stewardship development committee. He is senior pastor of Central Church in Jonesboro, Ark.

The recommendation for interim president will be presented to the February meeting of the full committee.

Mississippi Baptist members of the SBC Executive Committee include Dan Lanier, senior pastor of Northcrest Church, Meridian; Adam Wyatt, senior pastor of Corinth Church, Magee; and Brian Cloys, educator at Columbia High School in Columbia.
