One of two state Senior Adult Day Retreats was held at Salem Heights Church, Laurel, May 19, at noon.
According to Dwayne Parker, Director, Discipleship/Sunday School Department, Mississippi Baptist Convention Board, “The Senior Adult Day Retreat is designed for senior adults across the state of Mississippi just to have a day of spiritual reflection and renewal for them. This year we intentionally went with the theme of ‘Go and Make,’ because we wanted them to be reminded that God has a purpose for them, God can still use them, and they’re vital in the life of the church when it comes to helping make disciples.”
The other day retreat was at Fairview Church, Columbus, May 17.
“Both churches that hosted us were just phenomenal,” Parker said.
Program personalities included:
— Wayne Pinkerton, Business Administrator, First Church, Madison
— Tom Prather, Director of Convention Relations & Minister to the Baptist Children’s Village, Baptist Children’s Village
— Daniel Hall, Executive Director, Mississippi Baptist Foundation
— Bill Clark, “Entertainer – Pianist – Crooner – Mirth’er – Impresario,” Brandon
— Rachel Yoder, First Church, Laurel
— Jim Taylor, Pastor, First Church, Magee
“Several people commented that they were encouraged and challenged,” Parker said. “We had a lady at Fairview come up and say to Jon Daniels [pastor, First Church Flora, and speaker at the Fairview retreat] and to me, “I’ve really slacked when it comes to making disciples. I don’t have an excuse.”
