JACKSON, Miss. (Special) – The 2021 Preaching Conference sponsored by the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board (MBCB) will be conducted live beginning at 9 a.m. on May 6 via Zoom webinar, according to John Pace, director of the MBCB Leadership Department.
“Our 2021 Preaching Conference will feature presentations that examine and analyze the background and theological themes of I Corinthians, and provide powerful preaching and teaching ideas on applying these truths to our daily lives of faith and ministry,” Pace said.
“Taught by some of the leading Bible scholars in our state, the Preaching Conference provides a semester’s worth of preaching and teaching material in a one-day Zoom webinar format,” he pointed out. “We encourage all pastors, ministers, and church leaders to sign up and join us for this informative and inspiring time of ministry fellowship and equipping,”
The conference will feature study of the New Testament book of I Corinthians, led by:
— Daniel Caldwell, chair for the department of biblical studies and professor of religion at William Carey University in Hattiesburg. Focus: Background and context of I Corinthians.
— Ronald Meeks, chair of the department of biblical studies and professor of biblical studies at Blue Mountain College in Blue Mountain. Focus: Preaching and teaching ideas from I Corinthians.
— Wayne VanHorn, dean of the School of Christian Studies and the Arts and professor of Christian studies and philosophy at Mississippi College in Clinton. Focus: Theological themes and discussion of I Corinthians.
All three institutions of higher learning are affiliated with the Mississippi Baptist Convention. “[The first] one hundred participants to register will be able to join us online. Registered participants will be able to view the conference live and submit questions for the professors that they will address at the end of each presentation,” Pace said.
“This event will also be recorded and made available through the MBCB website, mbcb.org, with Bible study materials from the professors, at a later date for those who are not one of the first 100 registered participants,” he added.
“As disciples and servants of Christ, we face the challenge of obeying Christ and advancing His kingdom in our world, instead of being influenced and corrupted by our increasingly evil and sinful culture,” Pace noted. “In I Corinthians, Paul wrote to Christians living in one of the most troubled churches in one of the most immoral cities in the ancient world, providing invaluable teaching, correction, and encouragement needed for our spiritual battles and ministry still today.”
