When I started college, I didn’t truly realize the importance of Baptist Student Union (BSU), but looking back through my time so far, I see how many doors God has opened for me and how many things He has taught me through BSU. I have learned so much about discipleship, studying scripture, and true devotion to the Lord. Things such as these are definitely not found everywhere on a college campus, but BSU is an incredible example of a place where you can find true biblical teaching.

I love visiting with Trey Hess, my BSU Director at Southwest Mississippi Community College. He is always faithful to have biblical conversations with us, and I always walk away having learned something valuable I did not know before. I knew some people who were involved in BSU before school started, but the number of lifelong friendships I have developed and life altering events I have experienced just in my first year of involvement in BSU are too numerous to count. I could tell stories all day!

One of my most memorable moments with BSU was our spring break mission trip to New York City. The track that I was a part of focused on the Islamic population within New York. Prior to this trip I studied up on the culture and beliefs of the Islamic faith, but none of that compared to the actual conversations I would have with folks in this people group. Serving in New York City was a big change of pace for my friends and me. I saw God work in many ways during our time there. I am extraordinarily grateful for opportunities like this that God provides to students like me through BSU!
