All throughout my senior year of high school, I was afraid I would not have as many missions and ministry opportunities once I moved to college. I grew up in a church that was very missions and ministry oriented and focused on being a “whosoever church.” I knew moving to college meant changing my physical mission field, and I was really nervous about finding a community that would continue to encourage me to love God and others the way that He has called us to. However, once that August rolled around and I officially started at East Central Community College in Decatur, I was quickly proven wrong and reminded that God works. He works through good and through trials and through people.
As a Christian who is also a college student, I was searching for a place that was both welcoming and edifying, and I found it in the Baptist Student Union (BSU). The Baptist Student Union is my favorite part about going to college. There are students discipling students not only in the four walls of the BSU but also in the cafe, dorm rooms, and parking lots, and through social media. God knows no boundaries, and His presence is made known because of places like the BSU.

Even when there is not a scheduled worship service or Bible study, there are students occupying the building and worshiping on their own and with friends. Seeing God work in the hearts of college students like myself fills me with joy. Oftentimes I think we get caught up in our current concerns and battles and forget that God is omnipotent and omniscient. When life begins to change, God remains a constant.
I am so thankful for those who support BSU on campuses across our state. My prayer is that God continues to use BSU to reach college students and their families.
