provides hot meals for first
responders to UPS plane crash
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief responded quickly to the tragic UPS plane crash Tuesday at Louisville’s international airport. KYDR volunteers prepared 350 hot meals for first responders who came to the scene. KYDR Director Ron Crow reached out to state and local emergency management officials for ways it could assist in the aftermath of the horrific plane crash. Disaster Relief was asked to prepare meals for the command post. That was at 8:15 p.m., less than two hours after the crash. Within minutes, KYDR had secured the necessary volunteers, and Crow rushed to Walmart to purchase enough food for 350 meals. In another spirit of cooperation, Parkland Baptist opened its doors and allowed KYDR to use its kitchen and facility to prepare the meals. “We are thankful for Chris Heading and Susan Althaus for opening their church and kitchen for this response,” Crow said. The Salvation Army, a longtime partner with KYDR, delivered the meals to the command post. “Before midnight, our team had 350 hot meals, hot coffee and water loaded on the way to the command post,” Crow said. “Less than four hours from call to food out the door. This is totally incredible.”
