CONCEPTS: Life

January 17 is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. How ironic that three days later, a man and a woman will be inaugurated in Washington. D.C., who both support the wholesale murder of unborn babies. It is even more ironic that nine days after their inauguration, the March for Life will take place on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

How sad that the majority of voters in the U.S. want elected officials who promote abortion.

We Bible believers must remain resolute in our opposition to abortion and infanticide. Abortion is the murder of an unborn child; infanticide is the murder of a live birth. Both are being practiced in our nation.

God created human life on Day 6 – the crown of creation. He created human life in His own image – a trinity. He created human life with eternal value and existence. He created human life with dominion over the rest of creation. Human life is precious and deserves protection.

We value human life – all of life. Just as babies are vulnerable and deserve our care, the elderly are vulnerable and deserve our care. Abortion is terrible; euthanasia is equally appalling. What COVID-19 has done to the elderly is tragic, but where is the outcry for what abortion has done to the babies of our land? Liberals want to lock down everything (including churches), while abortion clinics remain wide open. What hypocrisy!

The same liberals/progressives who argue against capital punishment for a cold-blooded, premeditated killer argue for the privilege of any woman to kill her own baby because the human life within her is inconvenient, and often with the consent and support of the father. God is keeping score.

If we follow the Bible, we will value all human lives. I believe a righteous, holy God values all human lives and sent His Son to die on the cross for them. I often remind myself that Jesus tasted death for everyone (Heb. 2:9). Prejudice and bigotry toward any human life is a sin.

We are pro-life – human life, eternal life, and abundant life. The true Gospel affects the whole person – spirit, mind, and body – the soul. Evangelism is a priority if we are truly pro-life, but discipleship is a necessity.

The life verse of my mother, Ellen Digby, was John 10:10 – “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (KJV). Abortion steals, kills, and destroys. Jesus gives life, eternal life, abundant life!

Semantics or terminology do not matter nearly as much as actions. We must be pro-life in our message, but we must be pro-active in our ministries. We must never forget that we offer life to a lost, dying world.
