EDITOR’S NOTEBOOK: Four Years of More Tears

Major U.S. cities are in flames nightly. China is rattling sabres. Russia is deploying futuristic hypersonic missiles. A deadly pandemic such as has not been seen in over a century has gripped this country and the globe.

The poor people of the world are pouring over the U.S. southern border seeking a better life, but some of them are bringing real problems ranging from disease to criminal conduct to a fifth column. Incomprehensible acts of inhumanity are being inflicted on innocent victims somewhere, every day.

So, which one of those life and death issues did our new president, Joe Biden, choose to formally address in the days after his Jan. 20 inauguration? Exactly none.

So, what problem did he address in those early hours of his presidency? It was a life and death problem of another sort but of equal importance, for sure. He signed an executive memorandum that opens the funding floodgates to pro-abortion groups outside the U.S.

The so-called Mexico City Policy was put in place in 1984 by Republican U.S. President Ronald Reagan. The policy reinforces current law that prohibits federal funding for groups outside the U.S. that support, perform, and/or make referrals for abortions. Pro-death abortion supporters criticize it as a “Global Gag Rule.”

The policy has had a roller coaster life. Without exception, every Democrat president has rescinded it and every Republican president has restored it upon entering The White House. In recent memory, Republican U.S. President Donald Trump restored the policy after it had been rescinded by his Democrat predecessor, and now it has been rescinded again by Trump’s Democrat successor.

The policy shouldn’t even be controversial, but baby-killing in this country has become so normalized that pro-death advocates don’t see any reason why Americans should hesitate to pay for the slaughter of other countries’ children on a daily basis, too. After all, U.S. taxpayers fund infanticide in this country to the tune of over $500,000,000 per year to the largest abortion provider on the continent (Planned Parenthood).

And don’t look to the new, second-most powerful public office holder in the country for deliverance from this disgraceful scourge. In celebration of the Jan. 22 anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that legalized abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, Kamala Harris joined Biden in issuing a statement from The White House that read in part, “In the past four years, reproductive health, including the right to choose, has been under relentless and extreme attack. We are deeply committed to making sure everyone has access to care — including reproductive health care — regardless of income, race, zip code, health insurance status, or immigration status… The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to codifying Roe v. Wade and appointing judges that respect foundational precedents like Roe.”

The satanic pro-death forces in this country appear to be in firm control, in regard to this issue and many other issues that will determine the course of the nation in the future. Let our tears flow for the 61 million aborted children who have gone to their deaths in this country and many millions more globally — rest assured, God will hear our mourning — and pray, pray, pray.

Then let’s fight the good fight to wipe out this modern American Holocaust our leaders cynically term “reproductive health care.” Doing nothing for the babies, even when overwhelming forces are allied against us, is too awful to contemplate (Matt. 18:1-6; Matt. 19:13-15).
