JACKSON, Miss. (The Baptist Paper and local reports) — The Baptist Children’s Village (BCV) of the Mississippi Baptist Convention celebrated 125 years of ministry to at-risk children and families with a proclamation signed by Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves on May 11.
Ministry staff, alumni, board members, and supporters were on hand for the signing ceremony with Reeves, who announced via the proclamation that May 12 will officially be known as “The Baptist Children’s Village Day.”
“Thank you, Governor, for recognizing the BCV for the 125 years of faithful, life affirming ministry that has influenced the lives of thousands of children throughout Mississippi…,” according to a BCV statement on social media which added, “Be sure to wish your neighbor a Happy Baptist Children’s Village Day…”
The Village also hosted an afternoon reception May 12 at the ministry’s Support Center on Marketridge Drive in Ridgeland.
The Mississippi Baptist Orphanage welcomed its first child on May 12, 1897, according to the ministry’s website. Since then, the Village staff and professionals have grown to 50 people who serve more than 200 children annually among seven residential campuses and other in-home efforts around the state.
