Judson W. “Bill” Hurt, senior pastor of Pleasant Hill Church, Columbus, was elected to a first term as first vice-president of the Mississippi Baptist Convention (MBC) at the Oct. 25 afternoon session of the 2022 Annual Meeting at First Church, Jackson.
Scott Hanberry, senior pastor of Hardy Street Church, Hattiesburg, was tapped to serve a first term as second vice-president.
Rounding out the officer selections for the coming year were Michael Weeks, pastor of Pleasant Hill Church, Olive Branch, as recording secretary, a post he has held for 25 years. Will McNeese, pastor of Polkville Church, Polkville, will serve a first term as assistant recording secretary.
In the Oct. 25 morning session, Lloyd Sweatt, pastor of Meadowood Church, Amory, was chosen without opposition to serve a second term as MBC president.
Shannon Davis, pastor of Conehatta Church, Conehatta, offered a motion to declare a day of fasting and prayer “for the Choctaw people that God would comfort them in their time of distress, specifically that God would open their hearts to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior.” The motion passed without opposition.
Scripture reading of Isaiah 43:10-13 was presented by Darlene Cooper, member of Brandon Church, Brandon. Testimony was offered by Walter Mixon, missions strategist for George-Greene Association, Lucedale.
Concert of Praise was provided by the Mississippi Singing Churchmen. Congregational Worship was led by Ken Nuss, minister of music at Fairview Church, Columbus, accompanied by the Fairview Worship Ministry.
Breck Ladd, senior pastor of Fairview Church, Columbus, delivered the convention sermon.
