MinistrySafe facilitated a special session focused on overcoming obstacles to sexual abuse at the Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting in Indianapolis on June 11.
The luncheon in the Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis was co-sponsored by Mississippi Baptists and provided ministry leaders additional guidance on legal requirements, the common obstacles to reporting, and how to overcome these obstacles.
Gregory Love and Kimberlee Norris, Co-Founders and Directors of MinistrySafe, discussed legal reporting requirements related to suspicions or allegations of child sexual abuse within the church.
“One of the reasons we are dedicating time to this is because we stink at it. Churches in general are not good at this,” expressed Love. “Today we want to talk about some of the common ways we are stumbling, and now we can know where to go to navigate all of this.”
“The reason we chose this as a topic for a setting is because this is probably the number one call we get as a law firm,” stated Norris.
MinistrySafe partners with state conventions and other Southern Baptist Convention groups to protect children from sexual abuse.
Mississippi Baptists co-sponsored the lunch with Oklahoma Baptists and the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions.
