The Leadership Department of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board (MBCB) will host the annual State Preaching Conference April 15-17. Offered in three locations across the state, the Preaching Conference focuses on individual books of the Bible, with speakers covering crucial topics related to background and setting, theological themes and issues, and sermonic approaches to preaching and teaching the book.

The speakers at the event are leading scholars and professors from the three Mississippi Baptist Colleges — Blue Mountain Christian University, Mississippi College, and William Carey University.

This year, the conference will concentrate on 1 and 2 Samuel.

William Carey’s Dr. Joseph Bird, Chair of the Department of Christian Ministry and Biblical Studies, as well as Assistant Professor of Religion, will illuminate on the historical background of 1 and 2 Samuel.

Mississippi College’s Dr. Wayne VanHorn, Professor of Christian Studies and Dean of School of Christians Studies and the Arts, will magnify the theology taught within the book.

Blue Mountain’s Dr. Ronald Meeks, Chair and Professor of Biblical Studies, as well as Director of Church Relations and Ministerial Recruiting, will edify attendees with an effective preaching strategy for 1 and 2 Samuel.

“Our Preaching Conference will feature presentations by some of the leading Bible scholars in our state that will examine and analyze the background and theological lessons of 1 and 2 Samuel and provide powerful preaching and teaching ideas on applying these truths to our daily lives of faith and ministry,” said Dr. John Pace, Director of the MBCB Leadership Department.

“The conference basically provides a semester’s worth of preaching and teaching information and materials in a one-day format that will equip you thoroughly to preach and teach the truths of these great books of the Bible. Plus, the Preaching Conference is always a blessed time of ministerial growth, fellowship, and encouragement, with a fellowship lunch provided for all the participants.”

Pace added, “We encourage and invite all pastors, ministers, laypeople, and other interested parties to sign up and join us at one of the conference sites for this informative and blessed event.”
