For the fourth week in a row, it’s Springtime in Mississippi! Severe weather is again forecast for this week.

Monday, April 11

While much of the state experienced thundershowers Monday morning, areas of the northwest Mississippi along and north of the Highway 6 corridor can expect the potential for severe weather in the form of strong winds, hail, heavy rain, and the potential for a tornado later this afternoon and tonight.

Tuesday, April 12

A developing complex of thunderstorms is expected to impact roughly the western half of Mississippi on Tuesday, with the area west of the Interstate 55 corridor listed by the National Weather Service (NWS) as a “Slight Risk” for severe storms primarily in the afternoon and night. Again, strong winds, hail, heavy rain, and the potential for a tornado cannot be ruled out.

Wednesday, April 13

Severe weather is expected statewide, with areas north of the Interstate 59 and Highway 98 corridors listed by NWS as “Enhanced Risk,” and south of this area listed as a “Slight Risk.”

Severe weather is likely for the Enhanced Risk area with strong damaging winds, large hail, heavy rain with accompanying flash flooding, and the potential for tornadoes.

Temperatures are expected to be in the lower 80s, further enhancing storm development. Currently, the developing storms and an approaching cold front are expected to impact the state west of  Interstate 55 between 4 p.m.- 9 p.m., and move eastward across Interstate 55 between 7p.m.-5a.m..

Many Mississippi Baptist Disaster Relief (MBDR) teams working in their local counties with damages caused over the last several rounds of storms completed their work late last week. There is a strong possibility that teams will be needed later this week to assist those impacted by this round of severe weather. MBDR will continue to monitor the situation.
