Student leaders gather for Super Summer Planning Retreat

By Tanner Cade

Months before the biggest student camp of the year, nearly one hundred leaders gathered at Garaywa Camp & Conference Center on Feb. 27 to discuss all things Super Summer.

The Super Summer Planning Retreat is an annual meeting that initializes the critical planning for the upcoming July event. This all-day retreat covers a long list of items to prepare each leader in the full week of ministry.

For the first time in several years a new curriculum was introduced. As a representative of the Super Summer Planning Committee, Neil Tullos (Pastor at First Church, Wiggins) led the zoom discussion with Eric Ballard and Doug Franklin from Leader Treks. The curriculum is custom made and creates a better balance of New Testament and Old Testament passages.

“We wanted a curriculum that was custom for Super Summer,” said Tullos. “They developed a completely custom content that we can edit and tweak along the way.”

“The curriculum discussion is a big deal for us,” commented Ken Hall, MBCB Student Ministry Consultant. “This is the first time the curriculum is being outsourced.”

Students will be trained on how to read the scripture and receive practical help in learning how to study scripture.

Funding for the new curriculum is provided directly from Cooperative Program dollars.

Along with the new curriculum, the focus scripture verse for the upcoming Summer is Acts 20:24. But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

Super Summer will be July 8-12 at Mississippi College. The main speaker will be Shane Pruitt with worship to be led by Cory Epps.

Super Summer is a discipleship/evangelism leadership conference designed to provide qualitative spiritual growth and help develop student leadership in Mississippi churches. Utilizing a camp setting, for 29 years, Super Summer has challenged students to learn how to influence their culture for Christ.
