Vehicle of missing pastor’s wife found in Arkansas

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Special) – The sheriff of Crittenden County, Ark., across the Mississippi River from Memphis, has confirmed that the vehicle of a missing pastor’s wife from Kansas has been located with a female body inside.

Sheriff Mike Allen declined to immediately identify the body but did say possessions belonging to Marilane Carter, wife of Baptist pastor Adam Carter, were found in the vehicle. Adam Carter is pastor of Leawood Church in Leawood, Kan.

The vehicle was found about 11 a.m. on Aug. 18 by a family member who was searching for her, Allen said. WMC-TV in Memphis reported the vehicle was in a storage container on private property. Information was not available on how the vehicle came to be in the empty container.

The 36-year-old mother of three disappeared Aug. 2 while en route to Birmingham, Ala. Cell phone tracking indicated she was in the vicinity of the Interstate 55 bridge over the Mississippi River in West Memphis, Ark., when her phone went dead while talking with her mother in Birmingham.  A possible sighting in DeSoto County turned out to be unverifiable, but there is video of her getting gas at a West Memphis station.
