Zach DePriest has been called as the new Student Ministry Consultant in the Discipleship/Sunday School Department of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board (MBCB). At Dr. Shawn Parker’s recommendation, the Executive Committee (EC) unanimously approved DePriest during the EC meeting Feb. 27. He will start his new position April 1.
DePriest has a Master of Arts in Christian Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. His ministry goes back to his college years when he served as a Youth Ministry Intern. He comes from First Church, Jackson, where he has served as Student Pastor since 2022.
“Zach has been a faithful and passionate leader in student ministry for several years — both in the local church and across our state,” said Dwayne Parker, Director of the MBCB Discipleship/Sunday School Department. “His deep experience in these areas means he’s not just stepping into this role — he’s hitting the ground running.
“Zach brings strong administrative and organizational skills, along with a heart for serving students and leaders,” Parker continued. “He knows how to lead well and work with others, and I believe he is the right person to build on the strong foundation and legacy laid by Ken Hall.
“I’ve had the privilege of serving alongside Zach over the past four years as he has helped us with Bible Drill, Super Summer, Discern, and other statewide events. Most recently, we’ve worked closely together in preparing for Super Summer 2025. Zach’s knowledge, leadership, and cooperative spirit have already greatly impacted our Discipleship and Sunday School team.
“What encourages me the most is the strong network of student pastors and leaders that Zach already has across Mississippi,” Parker stated. “Those relationships are built on trust, shared vision, and a heart for reaching the next generation. In just the past few days, I’ve heard from multiple student pastors expressing their excitement about Zach stepping into this role. He’s not only ready — he’s already connected.
“I’m excited to see how God will continue to use Zach in the days ahead to encourage, equip, and lead student ministry across our state,” Parker concluded.
